My work as an artist centres on drawing and visual languages like maps, diagrams, technical plans and alphabets. I’m also interested in patterns, symbols and geometry.
For Canalology, I’m going to do an alternative map of the River Lee from Stonebridge Lock to Markfield Park. The map will include scenic views I’ve drawn from photographs I’ve taken during my site visits.
The work I do will include my interest in the structure and symbols found in maps. It will also reflect my fascination with the design of archival maps, particularly their intricate layout, decorative borders and panoramic drawings.
This ‘alternative’ map will be printed and distributed to visitors at Canalology. On the reverse will be the ‘real’ map showing the location of works made by the rest of the Canalology artists.
