As an artist, I’m interested in how our sense of a place is affected by what we know of its past. Tottenham’s history is intimately associated with clouds – and the words used internationally today to describe them.
This is down to Luke Howard who lived at 7 Bruce Grove in Tottenham, and who was fascinated with the skies and weather from a young age. He wasn’t a scientist, but years of observation and drawing allowed him to identify and name types of cloud. The names he gave are still in use today – like Cirrus, Nimbus and Cumulus.
My project will explore this connection between Tottenham and clouds.
